2. Why did you join Just Fitness?
I joined the Life Change program at Just Fitness because my wife was in it and she was having success with the program. I also joined because I was over 340 lbs and had developed some serious allergy issues which I believed were related to my unhealthy lifestyle. I was born with congenital heart disease, and with my unhealthy lifestyle, I was killing myself with my complete disregard for my health. I came into Just Fitness, skeptical of getting any long term results, but what I learned in the first 6 weeks of Life Change has helped me achieved some long lasting results.
3. What programs have you done at Just Fitness?
I have gone through Life Change level 1 and 2, Warrior Built Lite and I am now in Warrior Built. I also took part in Personal Training sessions to achieve specific goals and the boxing classes which were so fun!
4. What results have you seen because of joining Just Fitness?
In 9 months I lost 100 lbs and I have floated around that weight, plus or minus 10 lbs, since. More important than the weight loss, are the other results I have seen on a personal level. After losing the 100 lbs, this allowed me to have open heart surgery to fix the two holes I had in my heart.
I had done weight watchers before, and I had lost 80 lbs, (and put it back on) but there is a dramatic difference losing even 50 lbs through the Just Fitness way compared to the Weight watchers way. Food is so important to losing weight, but combining it with a healthy active lifestyle is the key to an overall life change.
Over the last year and a half I have developed strength and cardio that I didn't have before, and I even learned to run 10km without stopping or walking. Because of my change, when I get a opportunity I try new sports, I jump at the chance, because before losing the weight and having heart surgery, I would have never been capable of playing those sports. I can now walk into a store and just buy a large shirt and know it fits, where before I could only shop at the big and tall store. I fit in airplane seats with the tray down, even if they are the middle seat, and now people apologize to me for taking up too much space in their airplane seats. My kids can hug me and put their arms all the way around me. And because of my new lifestyle, I am helping to teach my kids to have healthy lifestyles, and not let them fall into the bad way of living that I did.
Having the heart surgery added at least 10 years of life to me, but they said the change in lifestyle has probably doubled that!
5. What have you gotten out of being a member at Just Fitness that you weren’t expecting?
I honestly started this program expecting to fail, but what I was surprised about was the pride I got from succeeding at the small goals and how motivating it is to keep on succeeding and setting new goals. With respect only to weight loss… 10lbs… 20lbs… 50lbs… they were all goals that I reached and exceeded. I achieved other goals such as being able to complete the "Hearthstone" workout, and doing it in a respectable time! I was also surprised at the friendships I developed and how absolutely everyone is supportive, no matter what stage I was at, and they are at. "Check your ego at the door" is what the door to them gym says… I have never felt like I was inferior at the gym, even when I clearly was the slowest and weakest, and most out of shape person at the start of my fitness journey. In the real world we all have different jobs and interests, and in most cases we would not likely talk to each other, but in the gym we are just gym members trying to get healthy no matter who we are and we are always supportive of each other.
6. What were your 2016 goals and did you meet them?
I had a few goals and I have achieved them. 1. Lose 100 lbs before my open heart surgery. 2. Recover from surgery and be in Warrior Built level in 6 months. 3. Maintain a weight under 250 lbs for at least 1 year.
7. What are your 2017 goals?
My goals for 2017 are in development, but I know I would like to get to and remain around the 100 lbs lost level for the whole year and I would like to aim for attending the gym at least 3 times a week. I have some clothing size goals and I have small performance related goals such as I would like to do a pull up and a chin up.
8. What is your favourite workout?
I enjoy bench press days at the gym and for some reason, I like many people, have a love/hate relationship with "Hearthstone".

10. Do you have a motivational message for others?
I started the Life Change program and told myself I was going to do absolutely everything that Scott said to do and see if it works or doesn’t work. The Just Fitness Life Change program absolutely 100% works if you follow the plan, but it is hard. But remember… Rome wasn’t built in a day, and changing your lifestyle change doesn’t happen in a day either. You are not going to get instant results. If I started out thinking it would take 9 months of dedicated hard work to lose 100 lbs I would have quit in week 2. In hindsight 9 months was a crazy short amount of time to lose 100 lbs. I didn’t think about time I just committed myself to the program and enjoyed the ride to get to achieve my ever evolving goals.
When you start this program you will have ups and downs. My advice for someone entering Life Change program level 1 is commit 100% to the first 6 weeks. Make this a priority in your life. Tell yourself that you will attend every class and if you have to miss one, take the Saturday makeup class. If you have to miss a few classes in a row, go again as soon as possible and keep at it. We all know its hard when you miss a week, but at least you're there trying to better yourself when you do comeback. Live the provided meal plan, despite what your family or friends are eating. Be selfish! This is about you and your journey to get healthy. Tell yourself every day you are in Life Change, that you are a healthy person that makes healthy choices. You will see results. No one will make your healthy lifestyle choices for you, except you.
In the end you will see that even though this process is about you getting healthy the effect it has on your friends and family is amazing!
